I have written in these pages before about the importance of tourism to Clacton, not just in terms of the positive benefits that an increased footfall has on the fortunes of the businesses and attractions operating in the area, but also the sense of buzz and positive energy which is generated.
The summer is now drawing to an end, and I think it’s fair to say that it has been a successful one.
We were blessed with good weather during the course of the school holidays, which led to tens of thousands of people visiting our beaches and attractions, as well as the many fantastic pubs and restaurants.
Then, of course, there have been some wonderful events that many have enjoyed visiting, such as the airshow, the real ale and cider festival and Clacton Carnival.
As well as that, just last week, the TikTok sensation Spudman set up his van on Clacton Pier, which drew a massive crowd.
In fact, the queue for their jacket potatoes was the biggest they’ve ever had.
I would also like to mention the Tendring Youth Awards, which took place in July and celebrated the fantastic accomplishments and community spirit of Tendring’s many young people.
All of these events have generated a sense of excitement, positivity and pride in the town, and it’s important that we continue this as we head into the autumn and winter months.
Fortunately, there are some great events coming up in the coming weeks, which should help to continue to draw in visitors and provide good cheer.
These include the Sunspot’s second birthday party later this month in Jaywick and the Halloween Festival on Clacton Pier at the end of October.
Here’s hoping these are just as well-attended events as those that took place earlier in the summer.
