Clacton MP Nigel Farage has donated £861 to support a local charity group, The Wrinkled Wheels, who have been fundraising to support St Helena Hospice.
The group of friends all based in the Colchester area have been fundraising to support the hospice, primarily through a successful charity bike ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats.
Earlier in the summer Nigel Farage pledged to support them with a pound for every mile cycled, with the final sum being £861.
The group’s fundraising efforts also included hosting a clay pigeon shoot, sharing a stand with St Helena Hospice at the Tendring Show and organising a dinner dance auction at the Talbooth Restaurant in Dedham.
Local MP Nigel Farage said:
“When my good friend George Wright told me earlier this year that he was planning a charity bike ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats I said that I would support him with a pound for every mile cycled. Well, promises made, promises kept!
“St Helena Hospice does so much to care for local people who need it most, so it is great to see people like George and all his fellow Wrinkled Wheels step up.
“Riding the length of Britain is a fantastic effort from Dave Chapman, George Wright, Scott Carey, Eugene Constantinescu, Shard Alom, Luke Southwell and all those who supported the team on their bike ride.”
