One of my favourite events of the whole year is the Clacton Airshow, so I was very pleased to read the other day that the Red Arrows will return once again as the headline act for this summer’s show. 

The superb formation flying of the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, as they are more formally known, is always a pleasure to watch. 

This year’s airshow takes place on 27 and 28 August so if you haven’t made a note in your diary, then now is the time to do so!

However, it’s not the only thing that we can look forward to this summer. In fact, there’s quite a lot going on.

This includes the Cricket Week at Frinton Cricket Club 30th July to 2nd August. From personal experience I can tell you that what they put on is great fun for cricket fans such as myself as well as those not quite so enamoured with the sport. 

Then there’s Clacton Carnival from August 7th to 16th which, quite impressively, has taken place in one form or another each year for over 100 years. 

Their main event of the week is the street procession with floats and marching bands which will be taking place on Saturday 8th August. This year they will be raising money for all the charities who support them during carnival week.

Clacton Pier will also host a firework display on the Saturday of carnival week. This is one of nine free displays it is putting on between April and November and is part of their annual thank you to the local community as well as those who visit the area from further afield.

On that note, I would like to share my own thanks with all those in a professional and voluntary capacity who help put these, and many other, events together. It really is appreciated by all of us. 

We can only hope now that the Sunshine Coast lives up to its name this summer, and there is good weather to enjoy them all!
